Pikasso I

Linda Manzer has been making guitars for 27 years, and she defintely has an interesting lineup. Especially the Pikasso I Now I've never seen anything quite like it, heck but I sure would like to get my hands on it.

As a musician, I'm always searching for new instruments, just to gain new inspirational format, and when something catches my eye, I just have to see what it's all about. Just like woman, or relationships, we always want to go to the next step. But yes, there's sometimes that fear that we wont be satisfied with what we find.

SPECIAL FEATURES

Pikasso I has four necks. Two sound holes. Two access doors; one on the upper player's side and one at the tail block. ( based on a panel door design by Abraham Wechter)

So, discuss this particular model, have you ever seen anything like it? And offer your thoughts on some very exotic musical instruments...

Thanks

~Joseph

Heh, I said the same thing when I met my fiancee, but I'm very creative. ;) But yeah, I was shocked the first time I focused my eyes on this instrument, but I think it's very fascinating, and yes I'm up for the challenge. I've never seen one of these instruments up close, but it's definitely on my list. And yes Sitars, good choice.

Is that a guitar, or modern art? Looks like something a string manufacturer would commission. I think a mandolin is about as exotic as I can stand, I've been around alot of ethnic instruments and the sound gets on my nerves real quick, to each his own.....................

Woa!!! *Rubs eyes in amazement*

Just when i thought Page's Harp Guitar was a groovy design....that would sure turn heads if you walked on stage with it. Any player associated with it yet or is it a one off?

It is crazy! Personally i don't like it, i can see a 2 or 3 neck guitar, but that 4th one in the back sorta ruined it for me (because where do you put your arm?)...

Looks like most of the strins on the other necks are mainly resonator-strings. this thing has for sure an interresting sound - you know where to get it? or is it a unique piece?

What are resonator strings? Not to sound like the village idiot or anything, but I don't know.

I read somewhere that lutes used to be made with strings that just picked up the vibrations from the strings that you played to give a better tone. I don't know how these things were built though, I think lute is just a kind of dustbin term for guitar like instruments.
As for exotic instruments what about a chapman stick or a war guitar. They're many stringed bass/guitar hybrids designed for people who are demons at tapping, cost masses of money but are seriously cool. I know King Crimson played with them in the early 80s.

I couldn't get access to her website but I found another link showing the weird beast. If you are having problems finding it yourself try this link

That is the craziest animal I have ever seen!

Thats not realy true. Lutes (archlutes, theorbos, chittarrone etc) where built with a whole bunch of bass-strings that where actually plucked. thats the reason why lute-pieces are so difficult to play on the guitar - on the lute you did not have to fret the bass notes.

What you mean is a HurdyGurdy. They where built (depending on the model) with 2-6 "Sympathetic Strings" (pic) that are not actively played:

hehehe, there's weired stuff than that...
including this:

The "DIJBASS", it's a hybrid between a dijiridoo and bass... the strings run sympathetic (in outher words, the notes that are closest to the sound ring louder/ and more consistantly than the others)

That pikaso thingy looks cool for slide as well... maybe just me...

By the way, Pat Metheny is the guy who palys the Pikasso guitars, and you only fret one neck, the others are just for resonating. At first I though I had an excuse for not being able to play osme of his acoustic pieces, cause they were played on one of those, but in fact it sounds more like a regular guitar with a wierd chorusy thing going on.
