Was wondering if you all could help me with quite a bit. I am looking to learn how to play the guitar. I usually listen to Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, John Mayer and the like. I was wondering what type of guitar to buy, brand, strings, style all that. And also some websties that may give me some resources for learning how to play, buying a guitar, and some tabs. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Okay, here's some sites to starts you on your quest for the ultimate accoustic:

http://www.fender.com
http://www.gibson.com

(thats the two everyone knows)

http://www.takamine.com
http://www.crafterguitars.com
http://www.ovationguitars.com

and http://www.yamaha.com (just dont spell it with two m's like I did or you'll get another TOTALLY different site......lol)

There are many makes of accoustic guitars in the world and if you're a begginer its worth checking out as many as you can. Get some guitar player's magazines, they list loads in adds and reviews. And many do colums showing you how to play stuff. If you live in England try 'Guitarist' magazine....there's usually something in that for everyone.

And of course, this site here :) Make use of the many links from it too.

no kidding!:D.

I own a Guild, its an awesome guitar, only problem with Guild right now is that since they moved to Corona (owned by Fender), they have stock their guitars yet, so not too many are available (i guess they stopped production and sold off all of em before leaving Rhode Island, or something).

Taylor makes good acoustics too.

I would never do such a thing! Fender picks suck (in my oppinion) get the ones with the little turtle dudes on them they're called turtex or something. They dominate. :D

I started out on a 1960's Yamaha nylon acoustic. As a result I practiced (fingerstyle,) and very religiously might I say. But I think for anyone who is considering purchasing a guitar, it's important to start out on acoustic, because it helps you differentiate the notes more accurately. It helps you focus on the simplicity of the guitars sound. Of course I love to plug my electric guitar, but my acoustic is my main songwriting guitar, it helps me relax, and just focus on what's important, and that's the sound.

Sometimes distortion clouds our head, and it makes us a little careless at times. But in order to find comfort, acoustics are the best way to go... and there are is great advantage to buying a nylon string guitar first, because it helps you learn good coordination with both hands. And always, yes the strings are more gentle for beginners. There are many different instruments to choose from when it comes to (brand names,) but don't be a sob, don't go by prices. Just focus on two very important aspects, and that's comfort and sound.

Take your time, try the many different instruments that are available. But personally, I would recomend, Yamaha, Fender, or Ibanez, These instrumentas are very reliable and affordable. :)

Good luck!!!
