With a budget of $400 (US?) for new gear, I recommend getting a Blues Junior, and putting the rest into some effects.
If you're willing to go with used equipment, see if you can find a mid-70's Ampeg VT-44. Its a 60 Watt all-tube combo. With its four 10-inch speakers, it actually comes out every bit as loud as a 100+ Watt amp. Jimmy Page is one of my main influences, and I find this amp is a big help toward getting a good Led Zeppelin sound

If you already have an amp you might want to check out amp modelers. These beasts either plug into to the front of your amp or directly into a desk. Lots of people make them however some are better than others. Im using a Line 6 POD and it is fantastic, however I started with a Boss GP20 amp factory which really really sucked ! I have a Digitech GNX2 in the post at the moment (It is getting delivered on Monday and Im hopping up and down with excitement) so stay tuned for more of my humble opinions !!!!

you couldn't get a fender deluxe reverb for $400 unless it was in "****" condition.
I got mine brand new, Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Re-issue Combo, for a special price of $660...they are supposed to be for 800, but i pulled some strings at music123 and they got it to me for 660.
what did i do?
at a website called http://www.guitartrader.com, they have one for $699, and you tell music123 that you've found a better price than theirs, and they will beat it...pretty cool eh?:D
