I just picked up my first Guitar, an Ibanez GRX40ZNB. I got the package that comes with a cheap amp and a digital tuner.

So far it's great! My first lesson is tomorrow, but I've already learned about 7-8 chords (and I'm still practicing ;)

Just to note, I'm a 24 year old from RI. I've had 4 years of piano in the distant past (like 3rd grade), and countless years of school, college, and church choral. Also a year of trumpet in grade school, (but I didn't like it). I'm certainly NOT a music major, though I would like to get into some basic theory :)

If you've got ANY tips for me... much appreciated!

Like I told the other guy, when your practicing dont make mistakes. If you make a mistake start again, it works for me.

Can you play any Billy Joel songs on piano?

lol... I wish! I'm also working (on my own) at relearning piano. I have the Greatest Hits book, but Billy is WAY too good at Piano for me.

It does have the guitar chords, though... hmmm...

One thing I'm noticing as I go through

(And the "Horse with No Name" one)

is the rhythm. I'm used to singing, and Guitar seems a little more like playing Drums (though I'm obviously not versed in that either).

Practice going from one chord to another until you can switch smoothly.

Hey Zeke, keep at it, keep it fun, and whatever you do please don't play Horse with no name around me, I think by now some one could have come up with a name for that horse, he's been in the desert for about 25 years and is probaly getting tired of hearing "Hey Horse", so if you have to sing it, please sneak in an extra verse at the end and give that old horse a name, I think he deserves it...........
