Hello,

I decided later in life to finally learn a musical instrument and always wanted to learn guitar. I hope I can say it on here as I started with Rocksmith and it helped build my confidence from knowing nothing to learning to play songs while keeping it feeling fun. I felt that I hit a road block and wasn't improving as I had the song thrown at me, but nothing was taught, what notes would I be learning, how will I strum the song?

I then moved on to Yousician, while similar to Rocksmith it was a step in the right direction as I was reading the songs like it was on a tab music sheet. The songs focused on the part you were learning (ie. hammer ons and pull offs). I stlil felt that I was lacking that teacher part of explaining to me about the song and breaking it down for me.

Now to back it up a bit I did take lessons from a music teacher for almost 2 years but felt he wasn't pushing me in the right direction. So this brings me to here, I've gone through the Essentials 1 and found most of it a recap but am blown away on Chapter 6 "Playing Songs in the key of X" taught by Lisa McCormick.

I have to say she is an amazing teacher and learned something valuable that I have not learned by the two programs above or by my music teacher! Now I decided to see how learning a song is here and so far I love the break down of it where I am taught what chords are going to be used and which variation of it. I am at the strumming part video and love how it is explained and just as I am there I am practising my strums with the instructor as if I am really there.

Thank you so much Guitar Tricks, I know there is so much more I have not explored yet on this site but feel a good vibe already that this will bring me to my next level I have been looking for!

Dave

Got to say the GT has been fantastic for me! I love Lisa's approach to teaching and always "fun" acoustic songs to play. (Some more please Lisa!)

I have been a member now for a few years and actually going over many of the lessons that I completed in the past as often I think to myself I am not progressing but then realise how much easier they have become.

ps. Just noticed I have just celebrated my 3rd year on GT!
