Hello,

I'm a hobbist guitar player but want to push myself to the next level. I started with the game Rocksmith which I felt helped me get comfortable and keep me focused on learning. I have moved from that to Yousician (premium) and feel I am at a point I am still learning from it but want to make sure I am doing things right.

This brings me to here, I am pondering on getting a premium membership here at well but want an honest opinion on if it will be worth while for me to come here. What can I learn from here that I am not from Yousician?

I suspect it depends upon how you learn. I had a look at Yousician and it seemed infantile to me. Kinda' like guitar kindergarten as best analogy.

GT is definitely worth paying for.

Affordable quality tuition by outstanding enthusiastic instructors.

I suspect many who join feel the same about it gauging by the noticeable ratio of adults of a certain age here who have garnered sufficient discernment in their life experiences to avoid wasting their money, effort or time on junk.

Evaluate them all and discover which is for you. One way or the other, a paid subscription to one structured online course or the other is definitely worth it in my view.

I won't say negatives about Yousician since I've never really much looked at it but I did take a peak a few minutes ago and it does seem, as manXcat said; not exactly focused on an adult player. There's a need for that type of program so I don't think it is a bad methodology.

However, if you really want to learn guitar, a place like Guitar Tricks is a better fit. Playing guitar is more than just learning how to move your fingers (though that is important) but it's understanding how you play music with the guitar. Sure, that means things like theory and that is a part of the path to leaning using Guitar Tricks. But Guitar Tricks builds your ability to physically play the instrument and understanding what underlies the stuff you play.

The starting point of Fundementals 1 does assume that you've never played before so it is a fully 'ground up' approach. If you already know some stuff, it's easy to just skip things that you already understand and get to the things you want to learn Like a tre, you have to have a good base, like the tree trunk. Once you've got a solid 'trunk', that basis allows your to go to different branches of playing; like blues, jazz, rock, or folk and so on.

Plus Guitar Tricks has songs you can learn just so you can play music, since that;'s the goal anyway.

My thoughts.

Totally agree with the previous comments. GT has structured lessons from beginners to difficult songs and everything in between. You will get a good education here and it's a lot of fun as far as songs are concerned. If you are not sure, get a month to month subscription in the beginning and see what you think. You must deligently follow the lessons and practice them to get anything out of it, though. Enjoy!

Thank you all for the awesome replies,

I can tell already compared to the other forum you are all passionate about guitar (which is what I need). I will definately be signing up premium very soon and looking forward to a more professional attitude to get me at the next level.
