i wanted to do the same and succeeded with an external audio interface (scarlet 2i4) and with an amp simulator as amplitube or positive grid. That way I can watch any lesson from GT or you tube, and play guitar.

my PC speakers and my headset are directly connected to the scarlet, and you have to set it up as default sound in windows.
