I'm novice guitar player who picked up a guitar in my teens (early 90's, pre internet) and never really developed the drive to learn and understand the instrument. After all, there were girls to chase! I finally convinced my wife to let me give it another go in August of last year and found guitar tricks a couple of weeks after i started. I signed up for the free trial and dived into Lisa's fundamentals course and felt....bored? I want to be clear here, that this is in no way a criticism of Lisa's course. It's fantastic and has a wealth of great information that i really didn't absorb properly. I didn't renew after my 14 day trial and have been trying to teach myself via tablature and youtube videos. After wading through bad tab and video after bad tab and video it occured to me that this stuff was all already available in high quality, with video lessons and great instruction right here at guitartricks.com!! I mde a vow that the next time there was a $99 a year promotion i would take advantage of it. Thankfully i received an email yesterday morning about the Blues promotion and the aforementioned $99 annual cost and signed right up. I'm determined to go in this time with more of a clear and receptive attitude and mind. I picked up right where i left off on Lisa's course this evening and feel like i've been reinvigorated. I've been trying to play songs without the proper technique and fundamentals down and it's been slow going. I'm extremely excited to take this next year and try and develop my playing. Lisa, thank you again for your dedication and clear instruction on some of the most important things i'm going to learn about playing this pickin' fiddle of mine.
Hello all.
Hi Jeff. I can relate to your intro very well. I just jumped back in myself and am really enjoying some of the songs made easy lessons. Glad to see I'm not the only one who has returned to the site. Good luck on your journey.
Chris
Hi Jeff,
So nice to hear from you!
Yes, the Fundamental course moves along very thorougly and methodically - and that was designed that way on purpose so as to make it nearly impossible for a brand new player to NOT learn how to play!
I can totally understand how it could feel too slow fro some folks.
However, the techniques and understandings you'll gain by going through the course will guarantee that your foundational skills and understandings of the guitar are rock solid!
Feel free to ALSO be looking around the site for other things that are fun for you to work on, that fall into your comfort-zone, skill-wise.
Keepin' it fun - that's what its ultimately all about!
Best - Lisa

I couldn't agree more! I am nearing the end of the Fundamentals 2 classes and am very glad I went this route. Picking up proper fingering techniques especially with barre chords was a great lesson as are many of them in this set of chorses. I came into this knowing how to reading music , understanding key signatures but nothing about the proper fingering a many strategies for accomplishing this smoothly. Great set of classes and worth the time for me since I have never had any formal guitar lessons.
