If i switch off my wah and turn the volume and tone controls off on my les paul theres complete silence- good! But if the wah is on and i turn the volume and tone off theres a humming sound. Is that supposed to happen? It annoys me because i use my wah a lot, as a filter too, and when i mute the guitar between songs the wah still makes noise even tho the volume and tone are turned down!

A noise gate will sort this problem out, you can get a reasonable one for about $100 (I use Behringer)
I think Boss make a noise suppressor pedal though I have had some bad experiences with there kit recently.
Hope this helps

Because a wah pedal is basically a band-boost filter, it will be inherently noisy.

One option would be to buy (or make) a decent AB box. Stick it after the wah, send output A along the chain to your amp and leave B disconnected (or stick your tuner on B, if you have one). That way if you want to go silent you just stamp on the AB box. No fiddling with the guitar.
Squeeze the day!
