I'm completely new to playing guitar... about a month or so in. I have electric acoustic Luna and a fender. I pretty much play in my man cave at home for few hours each day.

I have OCD from my military days and my frustration starts with, I can not mimic the exact tone in the videos. I know its not that big of deal but I can not stop looking at AMPS online now. And I have no clue what I'm looking at or for.

My only hold over the past couple of days is my fear of walking into Guitar Center and walking out with Eric Clapton Style Amp that I'll never get full use out of or my investment back. I've already been to Guitar Center once to get new strings on the beat up six string I picked up. End up leaving there with a second guitar that was screaming my name as soon as walk through the door and saw the room full of acoustics.

What's a descent begginner amp, with good quality sound that I can grow with over the next year, playing in my house, that's not going to break bank? As well as, it can be pass down to my little who's about 3 months in on violin but wants to play the guitar when she is big enough. (We got few years, she's only 5.)

Thanks in advance.

I depends on what your musical goals are. What style do you want to play?

You titled the thread "acoustic amp", and that's a fine option if it's what you are primarily aiming for. But keep in mind that an amp designed for acoustic guitars has some considerable differences than one designed for electric.

Acoustic guitar amps typically have slighty brighter speaker response (to accentuate the sparkling treble range of the instrument) & circuitry aimed at making acoustic guitars shine, often with fewer settings & options.

Electic guitar amps typically have a fuller, darker timbre with many more effects & settings options.

Since you have both acoustic & electric guitars it makes sense to find one amp to use for both. But if you only want to play acoustic style music (strumming & fingerstyle type music), then the acoustic amp might make more sense. An electric guitar will play through it, but won't sound as good.

On the other hand, an amp for electric guitar will have the tone options for playing pop, rock, blues, etc. The acoustic will sound okay through it, but not as great as the acoustic amp.

Any one of these budget line amps for acoustic guitar are fine. Fender & Roland in particular make great sounding acoustic guitar amps.

Any one of these electric guitar amps is a fine choice as well! Fender & others make great beginner options. I have a Boss Katana 50 that I love for practicing & warming up. I suggest getting something with a 12 inch speaker. Anything smaller starts to sound boxy & small.

Peavey makes an amp they claim will do it all. I've played some of their Vypers & they are good machines, with lots of options, but have a learning curve.

The bottom line is that you should go to your local music store, talk to the salespeople & most importantly try out some gear. If you know you have exacting requirements on the tone you are using, then there is no substitute for your ears hearing & comparing the machines you want to buy.

Hope this helps! Have fun gear shopping!
