I'm really having a hard time learning squelies, I know it's a feel thing but any ideas.

It's usually easier to learn the technique by using:
1. Bridge pickup (for more treble bite & clarity).
2. Fairly high gain tone.
3. Moving your pick position slightly up & down the G string until you find the sweet spots.
