I am currently studying Guitar fundamentals 1

Tablature has been introduced showing what notes to play notated by what string & fret to play.

How does this system work with regards to the time value of the notes?

How is a quarter note notated differently from an eighth or half note?

How are rests notated?

What about ties?

Thanks

It doesn't. That's what standard musical notation is for. Typically when you need to know the rhythmic values, there will be standard notation along wih the tab.

This is the standard across GT, we use a system of tab plus standard notation. It gives you the best of both worlds by showing you the information musically & graphically.

For example in this lesson, it's all 1/4 notes as you can see from the musical notation on the top line, until you get to the end and there is a whole note. The tab below each line shows you the frets & strings associated with each chord.

By the time you get to the end of the tutorials on playing melodies, you will start to see different time values in the notation!

Hope this helps! Happy New Year!
