I'm all new to the guitar and started taking these on line classes

i seem to be having an issue with my left hand as to how to hold the neck and use my fingers on the strings

I can't seem to hold down a string without hitting the adjacent string and muffing it. Is it just going to take practice and time ?

I don't want to get discouraged I really want to make this work my wrist is killing me I must be doing something wrong

I just don't seem to be able to make out from the video as to what to do to correct this. Any help would be much appreciated.

yeah I believe this its a little confusing and hard at the start . its like your first school class and u think with yourself Im going to write and read like adults its impossible but it wasn't !

anything u need is just practice but u need a reliable source guitartricks is very good just start beginner lessons and go on step by step

I dont know what kind of guitar u playing but its a little harder in guitar electric because the spacing between strings is lower than acoustic guitars but there are many electric guitars with wider string spacing for fat fingers !

but just keep playing and training it doesnt matter how fast u are playing the strings just try to have a clean and good sound with patience and after a little time u are good at changing frets

and sry for poor english

That should get you started on proper technique and answer any questions you might have.

[p]Good posture & proper technique is important. You want to make sure that your wrist has a slight, natural curve, your thumb is opposing your fingers (don't cup the neck with your palm!), and use the tips of your fingers to ret ntoes with just enough pressure to sound the notes. Please check out this video on that topic.

Also, have a look at this one on basic fretting hand technique.

Exactly what video are you working on? Hopefully it's one of the Fundamentals!

Hope this helps! Please ask more if necessary & best of success!

Thank you for the response

i am working on basic techniques

I am aware that this is going to take time I'm practicing everyday and I am getting better I realize I was "jumping the gun" and expecting it to be easier than I expected

I'm 66 it's just time And I do have the time. So I'm sure if I stay with it I will succeed

Thanks again for the reassurance

Don’t worry tech I was 69 yrs young when I started just over a yr ago. It takes time and practice and you will improve but it is a long journey, happy new yr to all Lou
