Songs into practice

when is it ok to introduce songs into your practice schedule.

At the moment I've just finished the power chord section in Fundamental 2.

I'm excited to introduce songs mainly to see how I'm getting on.

Do you mean in general? I think it is important to play songs right from the beginning to stay motivated!
