Sting doesn't do that... he does yoga. I saw a little thing on mtv when I rolled out of bed one morning he was like discussing tantric sex and some really weird stuff like that. It was disturbing, but I still like him.

He goes into that a little too much. I hope he comes out with a new album sometime soon. Music choices aren't really that good right now plus i don't pay too much attention.

I'll try listening to some of those bands. Broaden my horizons?!? Ya I heard about "the boss'" new album... I wonder if it will suck as much as mick jaggers did. I don't think that is humanly possible. Plus, I shouldn't even really compare the two.

did you see that music video for mick jaegger's new one? He has so much makeup on he looks like he's 24.

they showed a pic of him during the video and him normally, looks like the one in the video is the son of normal mick.

That's an intresting thought, but her lips were probably porpotioned right with her head. Most reporters have big heads. Maybe mick jagger should consider a few dozen face lifts?

And lip reductions. His lips could like... I don't they're scarey and they only look more scarey as he gets older.

Not a bad idea... but I think he's too skinny to support such weight.

I've only played on stage once, and I hate to play for people when you feel like your "showing off". I am a very humble person when it comes to the guitar. But there is a thin red line on stage personna between showing off and impressing the crowd. YOu just have to be sure not to cross it. And the more and more you learn to reach out to your audience, then the more room you have between you and that red line.

Well, my question(s) is this/these: How does one grab the crowds attention with out people thinkng "What the hell is that guy doing up there?" How would somebody like myself go about being able to play solo, no drums or anything, and still impress people? It may only be at a dinner restarant with only a nylon stringed guitar. Seeing how most places dont like "solo" people? Not that I wouldnt mind a band... its just I cant find anybody that likes to be origional. I understand you have to have your cover songs, but there is always time to make your own songs.
Has anybody here had an experience playing for people with only you and your guitar? Other then family, freinds, school, ect. How did it go? Should I just keep looking for a band? Just some thoughts...

When I still lived in Florida, I used to find pavilions or anything possible where people would be and play my guitar, and maybe my best friend would come with me and play her guitar also, or play my tambourine. We never tried to get peoples attention, and yet we always did. When we would play, we would jump around and dance to our music, or something like that, but we were always in our own little world. I guess stuff like that works. It works for people like Mick Jagger. He is always in his own little world on stage too. You can´t play live music simply to be cool or something. You have to do it simply because it is fun and you like the pressure you are under. If you are playing for everyone else, you aren´t playing for your own benefit, and then your music loses originallity and creativity because you push away who you really are and your own desires and conform to what the audiences narrow minds want. The artist is always more creative than those onlookers who have never ever considered creating something. You can´t try to give them what they want, or you will be doing the same thing the little "pop-stars" do, and then you can never really impress them, because you will be like all the rest doing the same mindless crap.

Well said....that goes with what I posted about my first band where is was all audience audience audience. New stuff almost always got rejected because 'the audience wouldnt like that one.' There has to be give and take.....for me its sometimes good to have one or two songs where it's 'Look at Me, I can play!' as thats my personality - I have a love of being centre-stage and showing the world what I can do.

I wouldnt say the 'onlookers' have never considered creating anything....the audience will most likely have people who are yearning to learn the guitar but just havent got round to it yet. That was me once....

That is true. I know there are exceptions, but from my own experience with people, most are very dull, and are not creative, even if they want to be. They treat art, and music is art, as a way to be cool or popular, but not as it really is: self expression.I think it is okay to play a few songs sometimes that you know some audiences would like, but only if they are songs that you really like, such as "Sweet Home Alabama" from Skynyrd. A lot of people like that song, and I love it. That is a song I would be very willing to play. If you want to play songs the audience will like and know, then you have to have a real feel for the songs you choose. They have to mean something to you as well, in some way or another, otherwise, your own performance will not be a very good one. Like if I were to play something from Korn, I would be very boring to the audience, because I don´t like anything from that band. I know they suck, and I can´t force myself to pretend they are good. I can´t get into something like that. Everything has to be real to you, or it won´t be good.
