Im still trying to achieve an acceptable sound from the f chord, for whatever reason my index finger just doesnt reach enough when i use my middle and ring for upper frets, maybe my index finge is small? im trying all the angles for my index finger, and all the power i can use, is there any hot tip for this chord? i cant progress the arpeggiated f chord for classical guitar for this reason. mostly i cant seem to get a sound from the highest string, the f fret.

All beginners struggle with something. The F chord is usually one of those things. :)

Give this a try and see if this helps.

F chord:

E |----------|[br]B |----------|[br]G |-2--------|[br]D |-3--------|[br]A |----------|[br]E |----------|

[br]Do this simple diad version of the F chord for a while. Put the tips of your ring and middle fingers on these notes. Reach your fingers around until you can comfortably grab those notes (fingertips straight down into the strings) and your thumb on the back of the neck. Do not hold any part of the neck with the palm of your hand.

The idea here is to get used to using just this simple version switching between basic chords (for example C, F & G). If you can get that right, or after you can, then work on adding this:

E |----------|[br]B |-1--------|[br]G |-2--------|[br]D |-3--------|[br]A |----------|[br]E |----------|

[br]Same deal, work with that until it becomes second nature to switch using it. Then, if necessary you can try this:

E |-1--------|[br]B |-1--------|[br]G |-2--------|[br]D |----------|[br]A |----------|[br]E |----------|

[br]The top part! See, we are isolating the separate parts of the chord to isolate the mechanics and work on them until we can get you to integrate them all. Try that and let me know how it goes!

Also, some people have success rolling or tilting their index finger a little bit to help gain more leverage on the E and B strings.

Finally, classical guitars have very wide & flat fretboards. Have you tried playing the F chord on an electric guitar?

Hope this helps! Please ask more if necessary!

Thanks for the detailed tips Christopher!

I've finally did the f chord, it sounds nice. but my index finger is a little leaned inwards to the fretboard, and it kinda hurts the right side of my index finger because i have to use more power than other chords, is this normal?

It's normal at first. Until you've built strength & calluses some things will be a little painful. Eventually, when you gain enough strength & dexterity you should be able to play without having to apply so much pressure.

It takes a while, but if you keep practicing, then you gradually you gain enough power that you only need to press a certain amount.

Hope that helps! Keep working on it!
