The only descent harmonic places I can seem to find are the 7th and 12th frets, with the rest making a really bad rattly twangy effect. How can you get these harmonics done right?

the higher your action is, the easier it is to do harmonics. For example, i have a high action on my Strat (12-52 strings), and i can do harmonics all over almost.but when i had 9's on, i could barely do em anywhere.

Also, the other ones come out with a pretty hard picking. If your guitar is not good, you won't be able to get them out easily. There's also harmonics around the 3rd fret, and lower!

It's not the guitar that makes the player :D. Ya but I'm sure that you just started trying to play harmonics and really haven't put a decent enough amount of time practicing, and squeezing harmonics out of your guitar.... well you don't really squeeze but i'm feeling that adjective right now. And if you have put a decent amount of time into it your screwed.. i'm sure that was a big help, but don't give up or you'll always suck (that's my motto, don't take it offensively).

Well, for this kind of very sensitive thing, the guitar helps GREAAAAAAAAAAAATLY... But it's up to you to play with 6 barbwires tied to a telephone pole. :D

Ha that's funny I'll have to use that one sometime. It's not exactly my fault the forces of nature have chosen me to be the middle class girl who can't afford a new guitar. :D

Not only do heaver strings help but also having the neck tuned properly makes a huge difference.

pickups have alot to do with sound...i remember one of my humbuckers sunk in and i couldnt make a sustain splashing bleach on black clothes...hahahah...anyway...it also helps to have good distortion......i never considerd string size an issue....i play with 9's...and low action i never noticed a problem.....i can mush the trem bar down to the body and still get a super harm.....just check your pickups and make sure your not hitting the harmonic dirctly on the fret....hit it just a little before the next fret
jam it up!!!
