Don't be shy about washing your callouses. In fact, if you get one of those small, stiff, nail brushes, you can scrub off the excess while your fingertips are soft and wet. There's no advantage to having huge, thick, scaly layers built up on your fingertips. And they will dry out smooth and hard within an hour of getting out of the shower anyway.
