I'm just starting to mess around with this style and could use some help.What tuning is best,etc.?

Well, it depends on what you're gonna play.
I personally use DADF#BD

check out Duane Allman, he did some slide guitar in the early 70's before he died.

Thanks for the replies.How would I go about checking out Duane Allman and his music?Is there a website?I have read how to tune for open G,and also drop D,but I really don't understand how to do it.Can I use a capo to tune?

Instead of tuning your guitar the usual way (EADGBE) you tune it with other notes. The capo only changes the whole guitar's range.

yeah, but dont try doing an open G tuning on an acoustic, its almost sure to bust the low e string and/or the bridge, depending on if its a cheapass guitar or if its a good one with good glue for the bridge. just a word of advice.

Duane Allman was in the band "The Allman brothers" if you've ever heard of them, they were formed in 1969 and are still playin today. Im not too big into them, im more of a 'dead' guy myself, but i'd just suggest to download some live early 70s ABB stuff, preferably before 1972.
