First, never start playing guitar right after you took a shower or washed dishes etc, because your skin is too soft right after those tasks. Second and here's the hint, for you and any other beginners. After you play or practice, get a bottle of simple rubbing alcohol and stick your four fingers in the rubbing alcohol and just let it dry on your fingers. For some reason by doing that, it dries out the skin faster on your fingers, and you develop the calluses you need on the tips of your fingers, faster than not doing anything at all and letting them develop. I think you will find that you will have calluses develop within 2 weeks using the alcohol after you play guitar. Hope this helps.
