welcome rgibson, and hope your having fun. I am somewhat of a beginner myself, so let me tell you what I currently have and suggestions as far as axes go. I dont have a lot of money, so I currently own the Keith Urban Night Star solid body electric, and maybe I simply lucked out but it came with a great low action right from the start, and I didnt have to do anything except replace the strings with Dadarrio 10 46 xl 110 light gauge. I also bought a Yamaha FGX 800 C from Guitar center for 250.00 and its great for a quality guitar that I can have for years when learning. Its an acoustic electric. I will be saving up money to buy a top quality guitar in the future, but I feel until I consider myself a true guitar player, I am waiting. I will eventually reward myself with a Gibson Les Paul.
