Pentatonic scale position

Hi, im new in learning scale and new with lead guitar. I just started learning the pentatonic scale position. My question is can i use certain position in different frets?? like if i will use C major scale position 1, can i use the position in 8 frets or other frets or its should be in certain frets only?? thank you

Scales are moveable patterns. You can move the entire pattern up & down the fretboard, but then you are changing keys.

For example, this is a C major scale pattern.

[br]||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|[br]||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|[br]||---|---|---|-7-|-1-|---|---|---|---|[br]||---|---|-4-|---|-5-|---|-6-|---|---|[br]||---|---|-1-|---|-2-|---|-3-|---|---|[br]||---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

And if you keep that pattern the same but move the whole thing up 2 frets, it becomes a D major scale.
