Im trying to start learn some songs that are in tunings that are not standard for the first time...what is the best way to go about tuning to one of these random tunings (CGCGGC)? Would buying an electronic tuner be the best way?

Yes. Alternatively there are some mobile phone tuners apps that you could try - these might get you started.

If you wanted to splash the cash, there are even modelling guitars like the Line 6 Variax that allow you to easily switch tunings by turning a dial on the guitar.

If it were me, I would just make sure that I had an electronic tuner for my guitar and use it often. My current favorite is the super snark available at Guitar center for less than 30 dollars.

Yeah, I love my snark!! I have multiple guitars that I keep in different tunings so I don't have to spend much time retuning. Plus, I like to keep a thicker gauage for lower tunings.
