Just started playing about 3 weeks ago and its going quite well. I have been following the core system and just hit the lesson on the 5 chords which is a lot of fun. It finally sounds like I am playing guitar, kind of. Just strumming and switching between them and it sort of sounds cool. I just have a few questions if anyone would be able to answer for me.

1. How fast/slow should I be progressing through the course? Like I said, about 3 weeks in and I am in the 5 chord lesson. How long should it take on average to complete the core system?

2. I plan on going through all the styles (Blues, Rock, Country), how long will that normally take?

3. So, I complete the entire beginner lessons including all the styles, what kind of level of playing should I be at? Like able to hear a song and sit down and play it?

Again, I know everyone is different but any ballpark numbers can help. Thanks. Love the website so far, I feel like I've really progressed in just under a month.

i find myself going back to lessons i've completed several times before i feel i have really learned them, it's always good to go back over the basics but there is nothing wrong with moving on to newer lessons if you feel you are ready.

Maybe it's time for you to start learning some basic song lessons.

Cory, I bought an Seagull acoustic guitar and decided that I wanted to learn how to play on my 62nd birthday (~2 weeks ago). I'm about where you are now in the core program and my fingers now tolerate 1/2 to 1 hour practice sessions twice a day without much complaint. My initial goal was to learn the chords for a few campfire songs from m younger days, but these five simple chords learned at this point in the core system have caused me to rethink that. My progressions are still a little shaky but I'm liking what I've picked up so far. I spend a few minutes each day trying some of the harder more advanced chords and I think once I learn to stretch these old stubby fingers I'll do alright. Hope you are enjoying this as much as I am

Hi, I joined mid-December, newbie at 51, been practicing almost daily, and am up to the GT1 lessons on switching from Em to Am and D to Em. Taking a while for my fingers to respond the way I want them to, particularly going from Am to Em and having a clean sound on each chord!

I don't think there is a standard on how long all this should take, just practice until your are comfortable to move to the next lesson ;-)

Thanks for replying. I'm now in the area of chord change practice (where she gives advice on like 8 different chord changes) and my pace of the program has slowed pretty much to a stop. The chord changes are quite tricky but I just have to practice them. It has gotten easier but I feel like I need to leinger in this section a little longer just so I can get these to sound right.

Welcome.

I started almost 4 months ago and started Guitar Fundamentals 2 about a week ago but before I moved on to the next lesson video I made sure I had the previous one down well. Those are easy to me now but I still go back every other day and revisit some of those videos. I figure it wouldn't hurt to keep my chops up on previous learned things. Welcome aboard!
