are black sabbath rock? or were they the first heavy metal band? does it really matter?
I'd say Led Zep, Sabbath, AC/DC, Deep Purple, The Who, Rolling stones, band of gypsies, free, Camel
the list is endless, these guys and bands are all considered 'classic' for a reason.......

I would say Lynyrd Skynyrd man. They are the greatest band on Earth. And other bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, and the list goes on.

I am personally think Guns N Roses. Led Zep come a close second with Pages masterful guitar playing/riffs , but for pure attitude and style, for me its guns. Watching Axl, Slash n co. rattle off classics like Nighttrain, It's so easy, Jungle... (the list goes on) is just amazing!

I will second that. Image, music they have everything. Anyone who says Appitite for Destruction isnt one of the Greatest Rock albums ever made does not know their arse from their elbow quite frankly!

Pink Floyd! I´ve never heard a band more talented, creative, original,whatever! They are great! They were even more great when Roger Waters was still Pink Floyd, and Syd! He was pretty cool, too. There are a lot of really great bands out there, but no one compares to Pink Floyd. Their music is like a complete style all their own. I think that band will never be forgotten.

I don't think G&R would be condidered classic rock, but if they were, they would blow ded zep out of the water. There is a classic rock station here in Dallas and I swear that's all the hell they play is Zep.

I only listened to classic rock in America, and Guns n Roses are classic rock, and they are metal. I guess they should be called "classic metal"! But the classic rock stations played them. They played Ozzy, too. I think Metallica will get played one day in the near future on the classic rock stations too.

I wouldnt call GnR a metal band, but then again its all rock n roll to me, so Beatles if they qualify and Guns N' Roses if they dont.

Purple get my vote, closely followed by Zep, Floyd etc.
What about King Crimson though? When I was in Sixth Form, many years ago, there were two factions. One favoured Purple and rode Suzuki's and Yamaha 250's, the others favoured Led Zep and rode Kawasaki's. Anyone else rode a Honda! We all agreed though that you weren't really into heavy rock until you liked King Crimson. In many ways their music has aged better than either Purple or Zep. It still seems fresh and original, mainly because no one has tried to imitate them in the same way I guess.

Em... just to confirm my vote - Guns n Roses!!
Yeah i have loads of albums by many bands but Guns are thee only band who have never ceased to wow me with their skill. Every song they released in the UK went top ten!!
Even less famous, unknown, songs like Locomotive and Back off Bitch are better than any any song by my other fave bands like Aerosmith or Skynyrd.

Ugh, I think Back Off Bitch is horrible, but I agree the have a lot of great album tracks and such.

Guns and Roses gets my all time fave vote. I wish somebody would cover Thin Lizzy's "Cowboy Song". That's a great song.
