I have just started playing last week, So it is all new to me. The trouble I have is I am missing the first part of my index finger on my left hand, so It is hard for me to fret the strings with that fingerand when I do use that finger it will cover the other strings also.

Could anyone out there know of a way I can fret the notes without using that finger.

Any help would be great, and I thank you.

Wow, that's a hard one. I can think of these options.

1. Use your other fingers when the end of your index finger is too big to use without hitting other strings. As you gain skill you might find that it becomes easier for you to get your index finger into the act.

2. Try a different guitar with wider string spacing. Some acoustics & classical guitars have string spacing that is very flat & wide & might be a better fit for your situation. Go to a local music store & explain the problem. See if they can find an instrument that would be a better fit for you.

3. Try to play left handed. This is admittedly a big change. But if you are at the very beginning of learning it might make all the difference to use your left hand if the index finger is whole.

Hope that helps! Best of success!
