Hi,

I have a buzz on the low E string. I am pretty sure it'sat the nut. Only the bass E string does this. When I play it open it buzzes and I can feel the vibration near the nut. In order to avoid the buzz I have to play it softly. I have a year old American Standard. Do you think it's because the action is too low at that string or maybe too high? Or is it something to do with the way the string sits on the nut? Thanks for any help.

It could be the action is too low. It could be the nut is too low. Or just that slot on the nut. Or the nut could be cracked.

First thing I'd do is raise the bridge saddle on that string a bit to see if that solves the buzzing.

You might consider taking it to a guitar store you know & trust, if that's an option.
