Hi everyone I have been using free lessons from guitar tricks to get into playing but I am really struggling. I only have weekends to practice as the day job is hectic. [br][br]

Is it realistic that I can learn to play some well known rock songs?

Was turned to gutar tricks when I was looking for reviews of the best online guitar lessons instead of paying for an actual teacher... but not sure if it will work for me. Does anyone have suggestions on where I can start? I am completely new to guitar... [br][br]Not sure if this counts but its a cheap electric guitar I am learning with... So embarrasing how much of newbie I am haha.

I'd say you can definately learn. I'd suggest you work through the fundamentals courses. If you work on it every weekend you will progress, but you'll make better progress if you can fit in even 10 or 15 minutes every week day. Many well know rock songs use only a few "power chords" and these are easy to learn so you should be playing in no time!

Don't worry about the guitar. I played originally on a cheap Kay strat copy in the 80s. "cheap" guitars are way better nowadays.

You just have to keep in mind that everyone had struggles in the beginning no matter what they did. Playing guitar, a car mechanic, video games etc. Everyone had problems, didn't know exactly what to do sometimes but they kept with it and over time they got better and so can you. There's no instant gratification with anything. Stick with it and you'll get there!

Nathan, I can say this, never feel bad about what guitar you can afford. If it works for you and you learn on it, that's a good guitar. I miss the first guitar I ever owned. It was a Western Auto Trutone Electric Guitar, and after filing the nut and the bridge on it, I had a guitar with great action to learn on. Right now, I am using the Keith Urban Night Star Solid Body Electric and just bought a Yamaha FGX 800 C. Neither guitar was more than 250.00 and yet they are excellent guitars. The real key is to make sure that the action on your guitar is low by having it set up by a luthier. Hang in there and practice as often as you can. I practice about 2 hours every day however, since I am retired I can do that. BUT, I dont practice 2 hours all at once. I stretch it out over my whole day. 30 minutes of fingering, a bit of TV, a few lessons for 30 minutes, break and eat, practice a song, etc. Structure your practice so that it works for you, but I would try and practice a little every day. Even 15 minutes helps!!

20 minutes isn't enough time to get competent and spend hard earned money on any membership. That's a slow slog.

Maybe the best thing for you to do is get Rocksmith 2014 (currently on sale with cable for $40 on Amazon). That'll teach you rhythm and an overall feel for the path that you may embark upon. It's a lot of fun and you will learn rock songs through it.

I use it every day along with actual lessons.

Nathan, it's not the tool, it's the talent. This vid proves it - [br][br]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhHRp2NxmFU
