Hey everybody!
I've been playing 4 a year or so now, so I know a fair few things, but short of practicing tabs and scales etc. what should I be doing to improve myself and enhace my skills.
Any advice from you pro's out there'd be much appreciated.

Thanx!

Keep your guitar out in the open so you can see it and play it all the time. Don't lock it up in a case inside your closet. Play it morning noon and night.

If you can come up with a more specific question, maybe we can be of more help.

Good Luck,

DC

I wouldn't qualify myself as a pro, but the advice I can give you is to improvise as much as possible.

Since you probably have a couple of tricks under your belt, jam along midi files or even your favorite song. Just try to improvise solos. Concentrate on timing and feeling rather than speed, speed will come naturally.

I personnaly love to improvise over I really enjoy jamming over I'm ready for love by India Aerie (Hope I spell it right). Some may laugh but this is a great song to work your "feeling skills".

These exercises will enhance your creativity and help you understand the many techniques you've learned in the past.

I was able to break a big "plateau" by jamming over songs.

Hope this helps, keep jamming!

Sweet! good ideas. I guess I never really thort to play along to midi, and I dont quite have the confidence to play along 2 CDs, yet!.
My Guitars are never out of my sight. ever. well...sometimes maybe. I got a Strat and an Aria(acu) at my mums and a Gibson Explorer at my dads place, so I can always play whereever I am.!!
Once again, cheers, any other tips anyones got for little me'd b wicked.

Peace.

What's up? Sounds like you're off to a great start, having a guitar in both locations.

I just wanted to add that you should read a few of the latest posts that are similar to yours, where beginners are asking for advice.

Check out the one called "new guy" in this forum (guitar basics) and one called "chords" in the "Songwriting" forum. It seems like we gave those guys some great advice.

Read through old threads, you'll learn a lot. I did!

whatever appeals to you, then when you get bored with that, try something new. Fingerpicking! anything!

or just buy a scale book and learn scales throughout the whole neck, which is important.

buy a book of scales, a book of chords, and a lot of songbooks or go to http://www.sunhawk.com for more songs

Learn the notes on the fretboard and learn how to accurately play songs you want to learn.

Free tab is available all over the internet.

Speed is the last thing you learn.
Accuracy comes first.
