Do you have any tips on how to train your fingers to work more independently? I can easily play a single beat per bar base note with my finger picking, but I am trying to unlock the 4 beats per bar base note with a melody underneath. An example of what I am talking about is Little Black Submarines by the Black Keys. I am finding this skill so hard to obtain.

That kind of fingerpicking is tricky to get used to. :) Try Caren's Travis picking lessons.

She breaks it down into easy to understand bits & shows you exactly what & how to practice it. You'll have to go slow & steady with lots of repetitious practice in order for it to become second nature.
Lisa also does a great job at breaking down the physical technique in her finger picking series.

If the beginner series is too easy, go the next section on intermediate skill level.
Hope this helps! Best of success with it!
