convinced to buy an amp...
If you play an electric you gotta use an amp. It's that simple.

I use a line 6 spider but I'm too lazy to go hunt for a photo of it.

get a fender deluxe reverb or something. fender makes the best amps (except for maybe Marshall). I tried this fender amp at the guitar store, and the guy set it to different effects and the knobs move by themselves to that setting. It scared me at first. i have a crate amp but would rather have a fender.

HERETICS! Measa Boogie makes the best amps (hehehe)
I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 watt Valve amp and I tried the Deville410 and the deville210 and there was no difference in sound. Hell, the only diff is the power but the deluxe has plenty, trust me. I played my cousins wedding a few weeks ago and had to keep it pretty low cos it has so much power.
Cheers.

yup! pretty much, you usually get about a year out of a set of tubes.
If you're willing to use solid state (and these days solid state are getting pretty darn close to a tube sound) line6 are great, the low range 'spider' series have 6 amp models, and the expensive 'flextone' models have 32, plus built in effects. The modelling is quite accurate and is perfectly legitimate, many pro players use line 6 amps.
Another good choice is a hughes and kettner warp 7 half stack. It's a half stack 100W with gain to spare, it's a fantastic price (less than a grand) sounds like a tube amp and is perfect for modern metal tones!
Hope this helps

Why not try (borrow / rent / buy and return it to the store) an amp modeler to get an idea of the kind of sound you want then..... go for the real thing. I use Line 6's Pod however there are tones out there (Avoid the amp factory by Boss as it really sucks !). Many people criticize these things saying they are not as good as the original and that may or may not be true (Having never played a 69 Marshall Plexi ) however it will give you an idea of the sort of tones that are out there and a ball park idea of what to expect !

I use a Line6 Flextone XL and a Ibanez custom made S model. It sounds really great. As said before, the line6 series are really recomandable becouse of the many different tones you can archieve.
