Hello.
Just joined recently. Been playing acoustic guitar for many, many years but wanting to learn some blues and rock electric guitar. I've got me a decent Ibanez semi hallow, and some garage sale amps my boys had when they were teenagers. Still haven't put together a real "setup" for myself.

First off, I want to concentrate on learning and practicing, and a setup that's maybe portable. I often have down time at my office where I practice on a beater acoustic, but I'd like to start working on Guitar Tricks lessons. I carry my laptop and my iPhone 6S with me just about everywhere, and I've got an old iPad kicking around (and wouldn't mind an excuse to pick up a new iPad).

What's a good portable setup where I can hear my electric guitar and Guitar Tricks lessons or Jam tracks at the same time? Anyone figure out how to run an Amp simulator and Guitar tracks videos at the same time on an iPhone or iPad?

Hey there

I'm not sure how well the iPad & iPhone will allow you to use two apps like that at once.

If it did work at all, you would be playing videos and the amp at the same time with both apps using the sound on your iPad. I don't think this would work. My recommendation is to purchase a small portable amp you can take along with you on your travels. Though if anyone reading this has used an amp app & played videos at the same time without any sound issues please let us know.

If you want to play on your iPad this Apogee JAM Guitar Input seems to have really good reviews:

Here is a good portable amp if you're looking for something small with good quality & simple to use:

All the specs are listed on each page.

I have my set up that could be portable as long as I had access to the internet.. I use a Line 6 pocket Pod which I got for effects.. I have it connected to my laptop and amp.. I can play all of Guitar Tricks though the set-up while listening thru headphones or amp..
The pod has guitar in and out(1/4"), head phone out(1/8") and computer in with USB.. Power adapter and battery power.. The Pocket Pod was the low man on the of the line, so other units may have more functions..
You may also want to check out Vox Amplugs.. I use mine.. to play during TV commercials.. (Headphones only).. The Amplug does have input for audio so you would have to use with recorded lessons..
I hope this give you a starting point.
