I am wanting to,learn to play the guitar. Have any of you used the Keith Urban guitar lessons? I am trying to decide between it and a Guitar Tricks membership. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I would go with GuitarTricks. Lisa McCormick's basic lessons take you from very beginner in a slow, methodical, and FUN way to learn. She actually wrote a lot of the songs you will learn to get you playing MUSIC, not just rote scales and such. The other great thing is that you can ask questions on the forums and get quick personalized answers. You can't do that with a set of CD's.
I've been a member for about six months now and can't believe how far I've come.
The variety of lessons offered with Guitar Tricks is second to none.
I say go for it.

Yes, you do get great personal help and feedback from the instructors. Anders helped me get over a major hurdle in my playing and Stephen White, the GT tech, has helped me with countless technical issues with guitar setup.

There's wealth of information available to you along with instructors that are willing and able to help you with your questions.

I don't use the site as much as I used to honestly, but I can't bring myself to let my subscription lapse. I like knowing it's here when I need it.

I haven't seen Urban's lesson site but, years ago when I decided to return to guitar after a decades-long break, I looked at the other major sites on the web. There was Guitar Tricks and distant seconds and thirds. IMO, GT is much better than everything out there...particularly so for beginners.

There is nothing wrong with relying on multiple sources and other lesson sites although keeping up two subscriptions might be a bit much. I found the free site (donations accepted) of justinguitar.com a really good supplement at times. Nonetheless, GT's Fundamentals course can't be beat..GT is tops, IMO. And a great bargain!

Hey Danno, I can tell you this. I bought the Keith Urban Night Star Solid Body Electric and its a great guitar for a beginner. It came with a very low action which you will like once you get into playing chords and get calluses on your hands. Having said that, the DVD's that come with it, are not as good as taking the lessons in Guitar Tricks. My recommendation is buy the Keith Urban Night Star Electric for the value, and then use Guitar Tricks to learn. If you are at all concerned about the auto renew, you can buy yourself a gift certificate for 6 months of lessons, and that doesn't have a renew feature. My opinion is use Guitar Tricks to learn.

LOL. I haven't registered as an official member here yet, but I am definitely with GuitarTricks. I've seen some free lessons that were already super valuable. The paid membership has got to have some great stuff.

We suggest using Guitar Tricks to learn guitar (but of course we are bias).

I can understand why people browse around before committing to a service of any kind. You want to make sure you get the best product possible. We want that for you too!

Keith Urban is certainly a great musician, but he is only one instructor.

At Guitar Tricks we have various instructors who are extremely talented and knowledgeable. Being good at playing the guitar is one thing for an instructor, but it comes down to if they are able to teach in a way that our members understand.

Some of our users have "favorite" instructors at Guitar Tricks. If you have a paid membership you can reach out to your favorite instructor (or any instructor) and ask them questions about their lessons. We know our members like variety so we don't limit them to one instructor. We also listen to our member's suggestions, you guys are what keep us going!

Keith Urban is cool, but at Guitar Tricks our members make up a community and collaborate with each other. Our instructors genuinely care about the users and have great tips if you ever get confused. Our Core Learning System makes learning guitar fun and helps those who don't know where to start.

We hope you will join us!

DITTO...I don't know much about the site you mentioned, but I think GuitarTricks, with Lisa McCormick is simply amazing. I've never touched a guitar in my life, and within just a couple of weeks, Lisa's fundamentals lessons have been phenomenal...she is so exact that I have had no questions after each video tutorial. I don't think you will go wrong trying GuitarTricks...

Shoot even the free stuff is very valuable. I remember I got a video about guitar tone that has completely changed my life in my email inbox one day. I wish I could remember who was in the video, but I can't thank them enough.
