how do u pick out want string go on guitar i understand difference between , electric and acoustic . but u got light strings .size of string r different aswell . I have 13 on my acoustic . I had some light string on but guitar sound was twany // so can u tell me about differents in strings....

Basically the smaller gauges are lighter and easier to play, but they do have less of the thick and heavy tone quality, which means they'll sound more twangy.

Light strings are generally thought to be better for lead guitar and light, melodic playing.

Thicker gauge strings are better for heavy rhythm and rock.

Additionally, you can get something called a "coated" string. Elixir (and I believe Ernie Ball now) has their own type of coated string. These strings have some extra ring to them and actually last a lot longer.
