Well, not all books, publishers & artists use the same terminology for a given technique, this is due to the different places they belong to...
And that's why every book have a 'Tab & Notation Legend' , just in order to read it & understand it correctly...
Also I'm sure that I've seen some people write guitar tabs upside down !! also some guys string their guitars upside down .. I know it's very stupid , and that's why it's not popular, but it exist, but I always respect others as long as they respect me..
