Hey Everybody,

I'm getting ready to upgrade to a Fender Standard Telecaster. They don't come with a case, so I'm starting to think about a case to protect it. I'm not looking for a gig bag; I'd like locks to keep the kids out. What is the best case/best value?

Thanks for your thoughts,

David

Upgrade when and where you buy your Strat.. That's what my wife did when we got my Tele at GC.. Work a deal.. I think Sweetwater will if you talk to them.. Musician's Friend might give you a deal also..
You don't know until you ask..

Honestly dude, I would get the cases that Fender provides specifically for their Strats, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fender-Accessories-099-6180-320_130443-Strat-Tele/dp/B005SUU7H8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1436664755&sr=8-2&keywords=fender+stratocaster+case

They're expensive, but they're nice cases and they do lock.

I like the idea of the Fender case. I also like the idea of shooting for the case at a discount when I buy the guitar. It is worth a shot. I noticed that people sell the Fender cases on Craig's List. An experienced player told me that they are sold by broke guys who don't want to sell the guitar itself. I will definitely try to pay less than retail. My user name was almost budgetplayer.

That experienced player told you the truth.. Been there done that.. I gotten a case for my daughters guitar but it wasn't for a fender guitar.. I sold it to a music store for $30.. It had cut out burn spot the size of a quarter.. It stunk like an old ashtray.. I don't remember it having a lock..
Hope you get a deal on your purchase..!

It sounds like that case would have more road wear than my future guitar or me, for that matter. Whatever I do, I'm set on getting a bargain on that case.

Thank for the advice,

Craig's List & eBay as already mentioned. I've bought a few used cases that way. It's hit or miss. Definitely try to see, inspect the case in person if possible when, if you buy used.

IMO, the best cases for Fenders are the molded ones. Inexpensive, light weight & extremely durable.

My best Strats go in these.

For half the price, but still new, you can usually find these type of cases on sale on Musician's Friend or GC. Not as good quality, & definitely not as road worthy. But usually okay for normal wear & tear.

Gator cases are only a little higher price, but usually a little better quality.

If you go to the store knowing the market values, then you'll be in a better position to negotiate (if the store is willing!) when you go guitar shopping.

Best of success!
