Hi Beachboy welcome! This is my third week! Like you I was hoping to learn a lifelong dream. I stick with the program in fundamentals one and practice every chance I get. SometimesI get frustrated because it is hard to keep up with the play alongside. lately when I have trouble with that I stop and practice the spider exercise or some of the earlier lessons to improve my finger dexterity and placement. Am really beginning to think that is part of what slows me down. Have fun hope you enjoy this as much as I do! I love this site! I am very impressed with the quality of the teachers and lessons!

Just finished with Ms. McCormick's Fundamentals Course 1. Could not be more excited and pleased. Learning and practicing mandolin and tenor banjo as well, with hopes of forming what I want to call an Irish Americana Rockish Folkish outfit. Influenced by Son Volt, Wilco, The Pogues, Mumford and Sons, Dylan, The Band and more. I live just north of Los Angeles. Anyone kindreds out there in my area?

I just started a week ago on fundamentals level 1 and wondering how long it took you to complete it? It's not like I want to rush it but just want to set a target for myself and challenge myself. Thanks.

I'd say it's doable in 2-3 weeks, depending on your schedule.

Welcome beachboy11100..
The time is going to vary from person to person.. Just don't over do the development of your fingertip calluses. Muscle memory and dexterity also need to improve.. practice makes perfect, but don't forget to get a few breaks here and there..
Set yourself a practice routine..
For example
1 Tune up first and do warm ups exercises
2 Do you lesson
3 Take a break.. shake out your hands
4 Try a song in your ability range.
5 Go back to present lesson.
6 wipe down your strings
Make it your own. just stay loose and look through the Guitar Tricks web site..
Enjoy the trip..

I'm in my 4th week with fundamentals one and have completed ~80%.
I'm practicing every second day between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
Perhaps I could have finished fundamentals one in this time but I looked beyond the borders of fundamentals one.
To practice chord changes for example I started with the beginner level of country as a variety of the already learned.
Even so with the beginning of the blues section.
I also took a first look at the rock section, but there is a difference how the known chords are played. Damping strings is contrary to the fundamentals where you have to learn a clean sound of the chords. So I'm not looking into this genre right know *sniff* (I love rock and heavier).
Or I tried 'Achy breaky heart' and have a lot of fun with it. 'Sweet home Alabama' is easy from the chords but I could not keep the pace.
All in all the fundamentals are set up really good and I love these lessons. I really have a lot of fun playing and some sidesteps increases the fun.
