MOST DIFFICULT SONG?
Tell me for how many years do you play and what is the most difficult song you have played until now!Well?
# 1
I have been playing for ten years now. The most difficult song I learnt was the 'guitars suck' song by Ron THAL, to enter a contest. This song is written to mock shred, so it's shred at its best. It involves tapping, string skipping, sweeping, legato, extreme hand stretching, and that's the first measure, then it gets worse. You actually have to wear a thimble on your right hand pinky to play notes located at a virtual 38th fret (you can hear it on my video) http://lalimace.free.fr/mp3/guitarsucks2.wmv
There's also some songs that seem quite simple but that are tricky to play live , one of them is 'every breath you take' by the police. The hand stretch, the picking, and the position changes can be fun to play while looking at the crowd and throwing picks at pretty girls...Not the hardest though.

To be honest I'm not sure what the most difficult song I've tried is, as nowadays I'm playing songs I previously thought to be the most difficult on earth without thinking about. At heart I'm a lead player and I've been working a lot on my shredding recently listening to many difficult and accomplished solos......Paul Gilbert's Highway Chile is mental and Steve Vai's Erotic Nightmares has certainly given me a few nightmares of my own!
One song I still find a challenge is Metallica's 'Disposable Heros'.....the chords are easy - I know the whole chord structure from memory and I'm not bad on the solo either having written my own version based on what KH did originally, but the speed of the riffs is evil  Many times I've had to take a long hard look at my technique and make changes, even wear the guitar lower to change the angle of my right arm, and try different picking patterns. My self-challenge is to play it faster than it is on the CD coz i'm sure its possible.

I can't actually play this yet, but it sounds incredibly difficult... the intro to and a few select riffs in Trilogy Suite by Yngwie Malmsteen.
"You must stab him in the heart with the Bone Saber of Zumacalis... well, you could stab him in the head or the lungs, too... and the saber, it probably doesn't have to be bone, just anything sharp lying around the house... you could poke him with a pillow and kill him."

You are right, it is extremely difficult
But nothing can compare with Satisfacion by Stones
It is brutally difficult to play three notes for half an
hour
The world is loaded, it's lit to pop, nobody is gonna stop!

Well, if it were that simple, why does everyone try to copy him? Just like BB king, "it's so easy", but everyone tries to sound like him. You still have a long way to go...

Ufff
That was a joke
The simplest things often are the best
And Smells Like teen spirit is also a great song
like are most of Nirvana's

Where in my statement does it say I didn't like SLTS? I am very aware that keeping guitar simple is sometimes better than playin a **** fast shred. A lot of of my own music is simple and slow. I find it quite good for squeezing emotion holding a note for a while n not playin like 16. All I said was that it is easy to play, you should be able to spot the difference.

Well, that's where our opinions part. I think you should be able to spot that playing the notes isn't the only thing in playing an instrument correctly, otherwise, we would have robot guitar players... Even though BB king's licks aren't hard to put your fingers on, it's quite another deal to actually make them sound like they should. There has been several PhD thesis on how Keith Richards would play on, behind, on after the beat... Quite amazing huh? Well, that matters...

Yes, because it is said that he is a master in beat organization. Just like Robert Johnson was a master at tempo changes.

I almost smashed my guitar when I tried to play "Hang on Sloopy"!!!.
Seriously, Vinnie Moores "Pieces of the Picture" took me a while to get down. My hair has grown back since then.(thank god!)

Albert Lee's 'Country Boy'.
Man that's a great song and a very fast one at that. Excellent when I saw him gig in Bristol.

The 2 top songs that come to mind that used to be hard for me to play was Paganini's 24th Caprice and Steve Vai's Sisters. I can now play both the way they are supposed to play. I'm also at the moment relearning Yngwie's Trilogy suite then I'll be off to learning his blues solo that he plays live after that wich I have never tried to play but
I have the tab for it.
Also in the last month I have been seriously learning finger picking (Classical style) something that I have been lacking but have always wanted to do but never really practiced. I still have my finger picking lessons from a teatcher I had years ago and have been using those as practice. I also bought the book
Creative Classical Guiatr
In Tablature
By Rob Parison
The songs include:
1. Minuet 1 (J.S. Bach)
2. Minuet 2 (J.S. Bach)
3. Lute Prelude(BWW 999) (J.S. Bach)
4. Prelude (Cello Suite No. 1 BWW 1007) (J.S. Bach)
5. Allemande (Suite No. 1 BWW 996) (J.S. Bach)
6. Bourree (Suite no. 1BWW 996) (J.S. Bach)
7. Gavotte 1 (Suite no. 3 BWW 995) (J.S. Bach)
8. Gavotte 2 (Suite No. 3 BWW 995) (J.S. Bach)
9. Prelude (Suite no. 4 BWW 1006a) (J.S. Bach)
10. Govatte en Rondeau (Suite no. 4 BWW 1006a) (J.S. Bach)
11. Prelude to Lute Sonata (Suite no. 4) Sylvius Leopold Weiss)
12. Sonata K. 322 (Domenico Scarlatti)
13. Sonata L. 79 (Domenico scarlatti)
13. Les Baricades Misterieuses (Francois Couperin)
14. Variations on a Theme of G.F. Handel (Mauro Guliani)
The pices start of from the easiest to pretty difficult in technique.
I play my normal guitar playing during the day and practice classical at night where no one will be disturbed.
Most of my electric work is done with my band. I'll practice electric works (Songs when I have the time that i have always considered difficult, this is of course 2nd to what i do to freshen up our original songs).
So basically what I'm saying is the best way to improve your playing and or to get out of a rut is to play things that are difficult for you.

I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.
