I have had a Marshall MG15DFX for a few years. Now I am hearing static when I play, especially on the lower notes. Is it worth trying to repair. If not what amp do you recommend for someone who just plays for his own pleasure.

You should take it to your local music store & demonstrate the problem. It could be mechanical (a loose screw, plate or part of the chassis or enclosure, broken speaker voice coil) or electrical (a breakdown or flaw in the wiring or electrical components).

Ask them for a quote on how much it will cost to identify & fix the problem. If the cost of fixing is as much as or close the cost of the amp, then you might consider a new amp instead of fixing.

Regarding picking a new amp, that depends upon your goals & tastes. What kind of music do you want to play? What kind of tone are you after?
