You need to have some kind of device to tweak the sound before you go inside your audio card. The best would be some kind of thing like the POD, or the Sansamp, the good would be a multi effects (like zooms etc...)the not so good would be a pedal (a distortion etc...)
Then you need to have some kind of software to record yourself to. I use cool edit pro. Then you save it as an mp3, then you are done.

I don't know what goldwave is. If it's a software, well, you don't need to buy this one, but you'll need one anyways.
