I try doing pick slides, but they never sound right. Could you please give me some tips on how to do good pick slides?

Pick slides are played with the edge of the pick, on the A string, and actually, you only need to scrape on 2 inches to make them sound good, not on the whole string. Watch Van Halen's videos to see what I mean...

Herve'/Lali,,I know your like a god on this board,,but I really gotta say "only The A string?".That's a bit limiting for the beginners, now you'll have them worrying about where to start scraping from.

Hack pack, there are no gods around here, and instead of criticizing my answer, you could have written up the things I didn't say... :D
You need to scrape the strings close to the bridge (pretty much between your pickups if you have a 2 pickups guitar) And if I said the A string, it's because they are best sounding on this one...

I pick with the flat side between the
two rounded sides.
And I play on E, A and D, sounds good to me.
And I must say that it sounds better to just
slide around the pickups, but if I
want like a divebomb effect I slide
from the bridge to the head.
Ever heard The Hellacopters?
They slide alot. awesome..

Fine,,,okay well the thread starter is probably in his teens so ,,good luck finding A Van Halen video, especially one that was released before 1984,and I advise, not to neglect the G,B,E high strings, they provide a more glissando feel, like using a glass slide, and are quite effective for "pick jumping",which produces a rather cartoonish sound, and can add elememts of humour in your playing.

as you ascend with your picking hand descend with your fretting hand simutanously on the same string.....watch the Van Halen video.
Another good video is "in the style of Van Halen by Curt Mitchell", I think it's a hot licks video.
