There's something I've been trying to figure out lately, and I wanted to see what everyone else thought about this:

In general, do most people believe that overdrive from an amp's overdrive setting sounds better than using a clean setting with an overdrive pedal? I know this might be a loaded question because I said the word "better." But do most people prefer starting out with a clean amp and then using overdrive pedals? Or do amps like the Mesa Boogie Mk 4/5, Blackstar, Peavy's, etc. have better overdrive effects built in?

I know some people would use both, maybe using an overdrive pedal for a boost. Or put a distortion pedal on top of an overdriven channel.

Or do most people use one or the other?

Check out this article I found. I think it has some pretty good info.

That artical was helpful but a little misleading . It basically bashed Amps with a master volume . And called pre amp gain fizzy . In some cases that's true but not in all cases .I suggest going to a music store and trying both and see what suits you best .

For me it's a tube amp ..... with a MV .
