There are certain tones that are hard to find on anything but a particular guitar. The strat I think is a good example, especially with the pickup selector in position 2 or 4 (combine center/bridge, center/neck). Humbuckers have their signature sound. P90's as well.
However, I have found that the single coil mode on my LP does a pretty good approximation of the strat tone that's workable for a stage performance. If I were recording in the studio, I'd pull out my strat.
