I get it with kids. I have 3. It's only because my youngest is now 5 that I'm able to do this.

You should check out open mics in your area. Some of them (at least around here) have a full house band. So if you walk in with just your guitar, you can "sit in" with the house band. Or if you have a full band, you all go up.
