Playing the guitar with a violin bow
# 1
I used to "dabble" with the bow playin Dazed and Confused and How Many More Times and all I can tell you is you have to have new strings or strings that have been cleaned with polish to get something out of it.Also make sure you you have rosin for the bow. When you try it at 1st it's going to sound like noise but concentrate on the E strings 1st,after all part of what page plays on those two songs is on the the E so listen to them closely, then when you get a little more experience try two strings then maybe 3 and experiment. But also have fun with it. By the way,Ive also heard a bass player do this too and it sounded cool as well.
Can we have everything louder than everything else???

Well, I thought it sounded cool when Page did it on "The Song Remains The Same" and besides I was also going thru my Page phase at the time. As for the ebow well......not really my cup of tea but to each their own in terms of what they like or dislike.I'm waiting for somebody to post that they used a cordless drill(ala VH) or use a vibrator or something like that.

if one adjusts the action of the guitar strings correctly a bow works wonderfully, with the appropriate effects. Example, raise the action of the G string slightly above the others, and concentrate riffs on that string. Bow playing is easier on guitars with concave string action, not flat-curved, this enables the bow to isolate notes on separate strings, like a violin. A noise gate is also a good idea.

Didn't Dave Navarro also use a vibrator for the guitar as well?

Not at all, it sounds like a car engine, or a laser gun depending on the speed and the pitch...
