Check out the tricks section and search for speed. They should be lots of exercises and techniques in there.

Also, take a look at the words of wisdom thread. There is discussion about lessons. You may/may not want them but you might find some food for thought. I know I did.

Good luck!

the first song to learn at my request for you would be an ancient art form of stringed instrument alchemy past on from master to student thousands of years throughout history,...now it can be learned alone, with help, ...it is Master Tzu Nechacko's favorite from the orient called too-ning (tunning). Basically tune your guitar and play, simple.

Practice, you know.
The big thing is to take it slow, set reasonable goals, and don't compare yourself to pros, or people who have played for twenty yrs.

Please, do yourself a favor, use a drum machine/metronome.
Speed is wasted without timing.

If you want some good speed excercises check out The Jonezter's page. Get a metronome if you don't when you try to play fast it'll sound real sloppy. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

Steve Vai gave the following advice about 12 years ago,,,learn 7th chords ,say Amin7th, in at least 5 different posistions on the neck, then learn the notes in the chord, and play them as arpeggios.Continues this with all the 7th chord variations possible. This greatly helped me memorize the neck, good luck.

The key to playing fast is starting slow...Find some ****ty metalli**** solo and learn it (kirk hammet sucks so this wont be hard)...Then check out some Zakk Wylde(black label society) tabs//practice the dorian scale and the minor penatonic till your hands hurt...close your eyes and let your hands do the work,,also watch other players hands ....steal they're tricks...its all about tricks

Well, except those, these were good advice. If your hands hurt, stop playing. There's a common injury that happens to guitarists, due to excessive repetitive motion. If you get it, it's quite hard to play after that without being in a lot of pain.

If guitar playing was only about tricks, Music would be in a sad state...Of course, you learn watching others. But don't forget, it's music you are creating.

music is all tricks...the scales we play..tricks..the licks we play..tricks...the solos we learn or write tricks...everything is based on tricks...i teach guitar for a living...i know for a fact that everything on the guitar...no matter how basic...is a TRICK....

one more thing....time signatures are MANDATORY while playing with speed....4/4 gets old after time...try 6/8 , or experiment with 9/8,,,those are sick timings for speed licks
