Hello everyone!

I'm just starting out on the guitar as an adult learner. I'm 26, I played briefly as a teenager on an acoustic guitar and on a recent deployment to Afghanistan I decided I wanted to get back into it once I got home and spend the time to learn how to play well. I'm home now and bought a guitar over the weekend. I got an epiphone les paul because I love the sound of the les paul guitars and some of my favorite artists use them. After a long search and watching youtube reviews I decided to go with this site to start out. I currently am not taking any lessons in person, although my girlfriend has offered as a fellow musician to help teach me, I may take her up on it.

If anyone has any suggestions to other sites for supplemental learning in a fun way please let me know! I'm also using JustinGuitar's free tutorials and the rocksmith video game.

Hi Jakebyrd -

Fist off...thank you for your service!! What branch of the service are you in?

And welcome aboard!!! You've found a great place to learn.

What you'll get here is some structure that you won't get from youtube videos. It does help to get information from other sources too...personal instructor, youtube, other sites, etc. I've heard good thing about JustinGuitar and have encountered some of their tutorials.

When you are first starting out, I think it is beneficial to have somebody that can help you our in person, so I would suggest you take your girlfriend up on her offer. Once you get the basics down, you should be able to use this site "solo".

Feel free to ask questions in the forums and let us know how your journey goes!!!

Enjoy!!
