dont know what song to play for open mike. help.
hi i have lessons at a local school and the instructor runs an open mike for the students. the next one is christmas. my problem is that i usually play as part of a group, this time i would like to play on my own. i cannot sing and play, i start strumming what i'm singing lol. i would prefer to play electric but can play acoustic. can anyone suggest a song. ive been playing for 4 yrs and consider myself competent. i have never performed a solo in public, though i have played intro's on my own. i only have 3 and a bit months so need to get going, know one else to hide behind lol. hope u have more ideas than me. thanks

I'd say go for Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry.
It's a simple chord progression (Am, C, and G I think) The trick is to accentuate some notes while playing a chord and it sounds great, it's definitely a crowd pleaser.

Being at Christmas are you required to play Xmas songs..
Are you looking to learn a song from scratch..
Maybe give us a list of tune you might like to play.
If no-xmas, you might look at a couple of Simon and Garfunkel song. Sound of Silence and Scarborough Fair are a couple I like..
I checked out "Save Tonight".. It sound like it might be good fit for you..
here's a video with lyric if your not familiar with the tune..

I hope this helps and good luck..

The first song I learned was Bob Dylan's 'Knocking on Heaven's Door', the chords and lyrics are quite simple and an easy one for playing/singing on your own in public for the first time. Something with simple lyrics is a good chic to start with.

hi all, thanks for the suggestions. i can play anything i want, as i said want to play on my own but cant sing and play so need either instrumental of a song that sounds good without a singer. i already play knocking on heavens door, i play loads of different song but would like to learn a new song. The last one i learned was breaking the law but dont think rock sounds good without the rest of the band. i will have a look at the songs you have suggested.
thanks
