Hey,

I've just signed up for the free lessons to see what I think of online learning for the guitar. I bought my first guitar 20+ years ago when I was a teenager and played mostly metal ( self taught ) which I learnt from tab books and friends. I don't really know much theory or the things you would learn in music lessons and have limited knowledge of scales/chords etc. I stopped playing in my early 20s but my 5 year old saw a 1/4 size guitar the other week and I bought it for him, so decided to get my old equipment out of the attic just to see if it still worked and immediately fell back in love with playing again. My old Crate-GT80-DSP amp works although has a slight buzz to it, my Ibanez seemed to have warped and my Flying V neck has cracked in the moves so I purchased a Fender Strat to start up my learning journey again. I also have a Korg digital processor pedal but have no idea how to configure either the amp or the pedal so I'm hoping there may be some lessons on getting the right sound and setting up equipment here also.

My main aim now is to be able to improvise jam with people as well as learning songs and theory behind the guitar etc. The person that got me into the guitar was David Gilmour and the sound of Pink Floyd which I still listen to with great pleasure to this day. I still idolize Satch and Vai and would love to play like them one day ( I used to know bits and pieces of their songs but my technique was rubbish! ) but I continue to dream :D Over the years my genre of music has expanded and now listen to all types of guitar from classical to country, rock to jazz, blues to metal etc and would like to learn all the styles which sit behind them.

Hey,

Could somebody please confirm that the actual lessons are longer than the free ones? I have worked my way through them but they seemed ever so short ( I'm assuming they are just samples rather than full free lessons? )

Also are the lessons structured in anyway or do you just pick and choose what you fancy?

Thanks in advance

Lessons are definitely structured.. Guitar Tricks is all about teaching what you need to know about guitar and guitar music.
Tools you need for reference are in the top right corner of the home page.. If you click on the "lessons" then the "core learning system" you'll see how the whole system is broke down.
A big help is to use " My Guitar Tricks" (right side of home Page) to find where you left off with your work. This location is the place that track your progress.
Hope this helps you out..

Thanks for responding

I took the plunge in the end anyway and started my full subscription, so I can now see the lessons are structured. Just working my way through the fundamentals, although they are serving as more of a reminder, it's good to recap the basics again. Looking forward to getting into the more advanced stuff but I like what I've seen so far, very clear instructions in the videos and I like the fact they cover everything in detail.
