If you told Paul Reed Smith himself that you kept it in the case for safekeeping because you're worried about resale, I'd guess you might get a few words about why that's not the reason he labored over that instrument. He made that guitar a nice and playable instrument to be played.
Take due care since it is a great guitar and make sure it remains clean and well kept but, stopping anything in your life for fear that something might go wrong only means that you're limiting the things you will do with your life. Maybe don't get in to skydiving but playing the PRS, even if something went wrong, is still worth it.
